Word, Word Expert and PowerPoint

Students in the Microsoft Imagine Academy benefit from world-class Microsoft curriculum and software tools to tackle real-world challenges. In the first part, students will learn to use the current version of Microsoft Word interface, commands, and features to create, enhance, customize, share and create complex documents, and publish them. In the second part, students will learn to use the current version of Microsoft PowerPoint interface, commands, and features to create, enhance, customize, and deliver presentations. Art and English language arts are reinforced.

Students will learn to use powerful and magical tools in Word, Word Expert and PowerPoint through scenario-based, hands-on lessons that emphasize practical outcomes that empower and make students more productive.

This course is designed to prepare students with 21st Century skills that are in demand in the workplace: Collaboration, Communication, Critical Thinking and Creativity.

Students will be provided guided instruction for each lesson and expected to complete try-it lessons on their own using step-by-step instructions. In addition, students will complete cornerstone projects for each standard, which will be counted as test grades.

At the conclusion of each Course (Word, Word Expert and PowerPoint), students will be offered the opportunity to take a certification exam (performance-based) to receive an industry-recognized credential. Students who are not successful on all credentials, or choose not to take the certification exams, will be required to take a teacher-made final exam at the end of the semester, which will count as 20% of their final grade.

Students are encouraged to pursue the industry-recognized credentials, which are highly valued by employers.
