Course Overview:

The Physical Science Curriculum is designed to continue the investigation of the physical sciences begun in earlier grades. The Physical Science course will build the knowledge base to provide a foundation for the continued study of science. The investigations should be approached in a qualitative and quantitative manner in keeping with the developing process skills of the students. The curriculum will integrate the following topics from both chemistry and physics: Matter: Properties and Change, Forces and Motion, and Energy: Conservation and Transfer.

Canvas will be used for this class.

Required Materials

  • 3-ring binder notebook (1.5 inches)
  • Loose Leaf College Ruled Notebook Paper
  • Pens (Black or Blue)Pencils #2 (Not Mechanical)

A laboratory safety agreement is required to begin any of the required labs.

*You are required to maintain your binder and bring it each day to class.  You will be given many study materials and must keep them up to date

in your notebook in order to succeed in this class.*

Students are expected to act in a proper and honorable manner and adhere to all county and school regulations stated in the student handbook. Students that do not comply with classroom and school rules will face discipline from the teacher and/or administration.

Class Rules:

  • BE READY
  • BE RESPECTFUL
  • BE RESPONSIBLE

Consequences:

2nd Offense:  Referral to Administration and Parent Contact.

ANY behavior that is so disruptive to the learning environment that class cannot continue  will result in a phone call to administration for removal from class, followed by an Administrative Referral..

Technology Policy:  In order to protect the educational environment and increase student success, this classroom is a Technology Free Zone.

Cell Phones, etc. will be placed in the Technology Pocket Chart at the front of the classroom daily.  Research data continues to show that students who score the lowest on tests have one problem in common:  using their cell phones in class.  Because my goal is to help you pass this class and graduate on time, this is something that we are going to do every day.

Bathroom Policy:

You are expected to use the restroom between class changes. If a student needs to go to the bathroom during class, it should be an emergency.  If the need does arise, only one student is allowed out of the classroom at a time.  The only bathrooms that are to be used during class are those outside of my classroom. No bathroom passes during the first and last 15 minutes of class.

Grading and Assignments:

Assignments are to be turned in on the day they are DUE. If absent, the student is responsible for retrieving missed work, completing and turning the work in. Late work will be accepted for reduced credit no later than the end of a unit.  Any work not turned in after the end of a unit will remain a zero.  Grades will be updated weekly.

Assignments will be a combination of the following:  classwork/homework, labs, tests, quizzes, projects, final exam, and various daily activities. The grading policy is as follows:

Test/Quizzes 45%

Labs/Projects 30%

Classwork/Homework 25%

*First 9-weeks counts for 40% of semester grade

*Second 9-weeks counts for 40% of semester grade

* Final Exam counts for 20% of semester grade

Attendance Policy:

Attendance in school is essential to educational achievement and school success.  State law requires school attendance for all children between the ages of seven and sixteen.  Parents are responsible for students attending and remaining in school daily. Parents and students should familiarize themselves with the Franklin County Attendance Policy – Policy Code 4400.
