Course Description
In this course students will gain a deeper understanding of design principles, engineering, fabrication and global needs of an ever-changing Apparel and Textile industry. The course provides a major focus on textile design, textile science, product construction, global manufacturing and the apparel/textile market. Emphasis is placed on application of design and engineering skills used to create, produce and prepare a product for market.
Course Outline
The course is divided into four main objectives. You will be provided a more detailed course outline of objectives within the first week of school.
Objective 1.00 - Understand engineering, technical design and textile science in the apparel and textile industry.
Objective 2.00 - Understand construction in the apparel and textile industry..
Objective 3.00 - Understand the apparel and textile market.
Objective 4.00 - Understand the global markets.
Course Materials
FCS-Issued Chromebook and Charger
3-Ring Binder and Loose Paper
Pencils/Black Ink Pens
Cotton fabric for sewing projects (4-5 yards; you choose the color(s))
Matching threads
*There may be other supply needs based on individual projects.
Google Classroom
Some classwork, quizzes, and tests will be assigned, completed, and submitted through Google Classroom. Students are required to join the appropriate Google Classroom course. Codes will be provided in class.
Attendance Policy
Students who attend class regularly are more successful; therefore, students are expected to be present and on-time for class daily. Attendance will be taken on a daily basis. According to Franklin County Schools policy, absences are excused for the following reasons: illness or injury, quarantine, death in immediate family, medical and/or dental appointments, court or administrative proceedings, religious observance, educational opportunity. Students who are absent for an excused reason will need to submit a note to Franklinton High School. Students who are absent should check with the teacher for make-up work. Make-up work (due to an excused absence) is allowed two days for each day of absence.
Course Evaluation - Grading for this course is based on the following:
A: 100-90 B: 89-80 C: 79-70 D: 69-60 F: Below 60 |
Formative Assessments (Classwork/Homework/Quizzes) - 50% Summative Assessments (Tests/Projects/Labs) - 50% |
Assignments should be completed and submitted the day they are assigned unless provided a different timeline by the teacher. Any work submitted more than one week late will result in a deduction of points. The grading period is 9 weeks. I will not grade make-up work from previous 9-week marking periods.
Final grading for this course will be based on the 1st 9-weeks/Q1 (40%), the 2nd 9-weeks Q2 (40%), and a final exam (20%). The final evaluation for this course is a CTE State Assessment. This assessment will be a 100-item multiple choice test.
