FOR STUDENTS/PARENTS: Foundations of Math 1 Course Guide for This Week
Students will access course information by clicking on Modules. Students will need their student number and password for NCEdCloud. If you have questions about the student login, please email me.
PARENTS: Use the following directions to create a Canvas Observer Account
- Have your student(s) Generate a Pairing Code (Links to an external site.) (this will be different for each student).
- Go to https://fcschools.instructure.com/login/canvas (bookmark this site so that you can easily access your Observer dashboard for your student(s).
- Click on Parent of a Canvas User? in the upper right-hand corner of the window.
- Complete the required information in the window, which will include inputting the student Pairing Code. Multiple students can be added.
- Go to the Dashboard to see your student(s)' courses.
- Parents can sign into this account to easily access their student's courses within Canvas.
- What can parents view as an Observer? (Links to an external site.)

Foundations of Math 1 provides students the opportunity to study concepts of algebra, geometry, functions, numbers and operations, statistics and modeling throughout the course. These concepts include expressions in the real number system, creating and reasoning with equations and inequalities, interpreting and building simple functions, expressing geometric properties and interpreting categorical and quantitative data.
Required Materials: (needed daily)
- 2-inch Binder
- Notebook Paper
- Pencils & Erasers
- Color Pencils, Markers, Crayons, etc.
- Charged Chromebook
- Graphing Calculator (Recommend TI 84 plus)
Classroom Rules and Expectations:
- Productive.
- Patient.
- Prepared.
- Prompt.
- Polite.
- All work needs to be completed with a pencil.
- Cell phones should be put away and turned off.
- Students must follow county dress code.
- Students should use the restroom before or after class. Bathroom emergencies do happen. This will be handled with a bathroom pass. You may use up to 6 bathroom passes each 9 weeks without penalty.
Consequences for disruptions/behavior issues:

- 1st Offense – Warning – verbal or non – verbal

- 2nd Offense – removal from class and administrative referral
*Severe class disruptions and inappropriate
behavior will result in immediate removal to ISS.
**No student will be allowed to disrupt the learning of his or her classmates.
Required Activities:

- Daily class attendance is necessary, it is the student’s responsibility to complete and turn in all make-up work.
- Notebooks. Students are required to take notes daily, they must be organized by date and include a title.
- Classwork/Homework. Homework is assigned daily! Expected to be completed. Must SHOW work for credit.
- Quizzes. One or Two quizzes each unit.
- Tests. End of each unit.
Grading:
Quarter Grades (9-weeks)
Tests/Projects: 50%
Quizzes: 30%
Classwork/Homework: 20%
Semester Grade (F1)
Quarter 3: 40%
Quarter 4: 40%
Final Exam (EOC): 20% of the overall grade.
Late Policy:
A student will lose 10 points every day an assignment is late. If a student is absent on the day an assignment is due, they have 2 days to submit all missed assignments. If they are absent on the day of a test or a test review, the student will be required to take the test on their first day back on campus.
Grading Scale:
A = 90 – 100
B = 80 – 89
C = 70 – 79
D = 60 – 69
F = 59 and below
