Course Description:  The Mathematics curriculum for 6th grade in Franklin County Schools focuses on 11 critical areas:

 

  1. Connecting ratio and rate to whole number multiplication and division
  2. Understanding the division of fractions and extension of the number system
  3. Writing, interpreting, and using expressions/equations to solve real world problems
  4. Develop understanding of statistical thinking

*Unit Tests will be given on the last day of the Unit.  Smaller quizzes will be given throughout the units.  Please refer to the course calendar on Canvas for updated dates.

  • Binder/Notebook
  • Pencils/Erasers
  • Pens/Colored Pencils

*Google Sheets will be used for more complicated calculations

Explanation of Grading:

  • Tests: As stated above, Unit Tests will be given on the last day of every Unit.
  • Quizzes:  Quizzes will be given periodically throughout the Unit to observe student comprehension.
  • Class Participation & Classwork:  Learning in Math 6 will revolve around in-class discussion and in-class activity.  Students will be expected to participate.

 

Make-up Work Policy / Late Work Policy:

  • Make-up Work:  Students are responsible for getting and turning in make-up work when absent
  • Late Work:  If present at school, late work is not accepted.  Extra credit is offered at the end of the semester to offset this policy.

 

Student Expectations:

  • Respect:  Students will treat ALL people with respect and kindness regardless of their race, religion, or gender.
  • Engagement:  Students will responsibly engage in mathematics with the understanding that they are capable of learning all materials covered throughout the school year
  • Listen & Follow Directions: There will be a plethora of  classroom rules and procedures and students are expected to adhere to them.

*All concerns need to be addressed with Mr. Mitchell if anything is hindering a student from operating under the stated expectations
