Welcome to my class! I hope you all enjoyed your summer vacation. I look forward to a productive and fun year! There is much to learn about science and we will cover some interesting subjects this year. 8th grade science covers the following units:

  • Earth Systems, Structures, and Processes
  • Earth History
  • Structure and Function of Living Organisms
  • Ecosystems
  • Evolution and Genetics
  • Molecular Biology

I will be using Google Classroom for all students. Codes for classes will be given out the first week of school. Parents/Guardians if you would like to see your students Google Classroom please email me at timothyosso@fcschools.net with your interest and students name.

Expectations:

I respect each and every student and I expect the same in return. Students, this year you will grow in several aspects. It is important that you understand the fact that concepts we will be learning this year are foundations that will prepare you for the entirety of your education as well as the science EOG. In addition to science, you will learn concepts that will effectively help you to study, work independently, and be ORGANIZED! Eighth grade science does have an End of Grade test, as your math and language arts classes have had.

Class Materials/Supplies:

Paper, Pencils/Pens, Notebook, Colored Pencils, Chromebooks

Absences:

If you miss class, it is up TO YOU to get your missing assignments. There will be a folder provided each day with the assignments/work from the previous day.

Each student is responsible for completing all missed work. Ask me what you missed!!

Students have 2 days to make up any missed work for each absent day.

A zero will be given for any work that is not made up within the given grace period.

Classroom Rules

As far as my classroom, I am a firm believer in parent/teacher communication. The following rules have been implemented to offer you fairness and order in our classroom.

  • Be in your seat and ready to begin work when class starts.
  • Sit in your assigned seat daily.
  • Raise your hand for permission to speak or leave your seat.
  • NO food, or drinks.
  • Gum will be allowed as long as the student provides a piece to me, and to be respectful in the disposal of the gum.
  • Bring all Necessary materials to class everyday. It is your responsibility to bring your materials.
  • Respect the rights of others and their property.
  • Follow all directions the first time.
  • Be an active participant in this class. Do your classwork, homework and projects to the best of your ability.

Cell Phones and earbuds:

  • Students will get a first warning to put away cell phones/earbuds.
  • 2nd offense will result in cell phone/earbuds being taken from the student for the rest of class period and a phone call home to the parent.
  • 3rd offense will result in the product going to administration and a parent will need to come collect item(s) for the student.

Late work Policy:

All missing work will need to be turned in by the end of each unit or a 0 will be given as a grade and no make-up will be given to change the grade. Everyday an assignment is late, 10 points will be taken off. After 5 days late (50 Points) a grade of a 50 will be given as the highest possible grade.

For Office Hours to meet if you are out for an extended time due to COVID guidelines please join my google classroom titled: Osso- Office Hours.
