Course Syllabus

Ms. Marshall’s 7th Grade ELA Class

Welcome to the 2021-2022 school year! I am looking forward to this school year, and I cannot wait to get to know each of you. 

Office Hours: Monday 11:45-12:15 and Tuesday 1:00-1:30. Please email me if you would like to set up a Google Meet during one of these times. 

Class expectations:

★ Be respectful to your peers.

★ Stay in your seat and ask for permission if you need to get up.

★ No electronic devices out during class unless otherwise stated by the teacher.

★ Bring materials with you to class everyday.

★ Participate during class!

 

Class Procedures:

★ At the beginning of class, sit in your assigned seat and quietly begin the bellwork posted on the board. 

★ At the end of class, please make sure your area is clean and stay in your seat until you are dismissed. 

★ When entering and exiting the classroom, always move on the right side of the hallway with at least three feet between you and a peer. 

 

Testing Requirements for ELA: We have an End of Grade Reading Exam. We will prepare for this exam throughout the year by completing classroom assessments and benchmark tests.

 

Things to Know:

  • Curriculum - We will be using the seventh grade EL Education Curriculum that is used by all of the middle schools in Franklin County. We will be reading the following novels: Liddy, A Long Walk to Water, and The Life of Frederick Douglass. 


  • Required Materials
    1. A three-subject spiral notebook
    2. A two pocket folder  
    3. A composition notebook
    4. Writing utensils
    5. Chromebook




  • Absences - 
    1. Each student is responsible for completing all missed work. Ask me what you missed!
    2. Students have 2 days to make up any missed work for each absent day. 
    3. A “1” will be given for any work that is not made up within the given grace period.


  • Late work Policy- All missing work will need to be turned in by the following Wednesday in order to avoid a “1” in the gradebook. 


  • Consequences:

1st offense: Warning

2nd offense: Move seat/collect phone/etc.

3rd offense: Silent lunch

4th offense: Call home

5th offense: Write-up



Grading: The grades this year will be split into two categories, summative and formative. Summative assignments (tests, projects, essays) will be worth 60% of the final grade. Formative assignments (classwork, participation, homework, etc.) will be worth 40% of the final grade. You can find the grading scale below.
