Welcome to Earth and Environmental Science!

I am so excited to be working with you this year. I will do my best to teach you everything you need to be successful in this class. I expect all students to make a commitment to work hard, behave responsibly, respectfully and maturely, and to put forth your best effort every day.

In this course, we will focus on the study of four different spheres of Earth; the lithosphere, the hydrosphere, the atmosphere, and the biosphere. We will also look at how Earth’s position in space affects some processes on Earth. Throughout this course there is an environmental theme where we will examine the impact the human population has on the environment.

Classroom Conduct: (All school rules, policies and procedures still apply!)

The Five P’s

  • Be Polite – Use manners and be courteous to your teacher and peers. Respect others opinions and autonomy.
  • Be Productive – Use class time wisely and to its fullest potential. Stay engaged with class. Ask questions!
  • Be Prepared – Come to class ready for success! Have your supplies ready, your Chromebook charged, homework completed and ready to learn.
  • Be Patient – Everyone learns at their own speed; demonstrate patience and understanding.

Grading Policy:

FCS Grading Policy

A = 90 to 100

B = 80 to 89

C = 70 to 79

D = 60 to 69

F = Less than 60.

The final course grade will be calculated by averaging each of the student’s nine weeks grades (at 40% weight each) and Final Exam grade (at 20% weight). Final letter grades will be assigned based upon the resulting average and using the scale above.

Grade Distribution:

Classwork & Homework  - 40%

Tests & Projects - 40%

Quizzes - 20%

Academic Integrity:

All work must be completed individually, unless otherwise noted. If you turn in work that is not your own and claim it is, this is cheating and is unacceptable. The following consequences will apply to students who are caught giving or receiving information inappropriately, or doing another student’s assignment. Both participants are considered to violate the cheating policy. These offenses are cumulative for the year and are not based upon the individual teacher or course. At the teacher’s discretion, the student is awarded a “0” for the assignment, or the student is provided an alternate assignment in lieu of the original assignment. In addition, disciplinary actions set forth by the school will apply

Late Work Policy:

  • All assignments MUST be submitted on time as assigned.
  • Assignments that are turned in after the due date will be considered LATE.
  • Once an assignment has been turned in (even late) it will be graded and recorded in PowersSchool.
  • All late assignments will receive a point dedication. Late deductions will be the following: 1 day late: 10% deduction, 2 days late: 20% deduction, 3 days late: 30% deduction, 4 days late: 40% deduction and 5 or more days late: 50% deduction.

Make-up Work: Students are allowed two school days to make-up any missed assignment for every one day they are absent. After the two-day period has passed, any missing assignments become late work. (See the late work policy) Quizzes need to be made up prior to the end of the current unit. Students have until the next scheduled test to make up a missed test. It is the student’s responsibility to visit the course Canvas page or the Absent-work binder in the classroom and get the assignments they’ve missed.

Extra Credit:

Generally, no extra credit is built into this course, however if an opportunity arises it will be announced for all students who wish to participate.

Tardy Policy: The following is our SCHOOL WIDE POLICY: Students are expected to be in the classroom (past the door frame) when the bell begins to ring. Consequences for being tardy are outlined in the BHS Student Code of Conduct.
