CLASS SUPPLY LIST These Are Needed if YOU WANT TO DO HARD PAPER COPIES (1) 3-Ring Binder 1’’- 2’’ ( I have many on hand) Loose paper- 20-25 sheets (I have a lot on hand) (8) Tab Divider sheets minimum(for Warm Up, Vocab, & Objectives 1- 6 Notes) Pencil, Blue or Black ink pen MUST HAVE Chromebook 1 Bottle of dish detergent (Any size or kind) OR 1 Roll of paper towels (IF you can do both it saves our money to spend on lab ingredients!!!!) 1-Plastic food storage container with name on |
CLASSROOM PROCEDURES & EXPECTATIONS
Course Description:
This course examines the nutritional needs of the individual. Emphasis is placed on fundamentals of food production, kitchen and meal management, food groups and their preparation and time and resource management.
Course Standards Outline: 1.0 Understand the relationship between food choices and health 2.0 Understand methods for food preparation(NC Safe Plates “New” Obj 2.02) 3.0 Understand procedures, equipment and cooking methods in food preparation 4.0 Understand procedures, equipment and techniques applied to baking production 5.0 Understand the principles of etiquette for meal service 6.0 To apply methods for meal planning and preparation |
Grading Criteria: Formative Assessments: Notes/Vocab/Worksheets 40% Summative Assessments: Quizzes 20% Unit Tests, Projects & Labs 40% |
Exams:
➤ Regular Objective/Section tests will be announced several days in advance. POSTED on CANVAS and taken through QUIA
➤ State EOC exam. TBD at this time Take advantage of all assignments, quizzes & reviews done throughout the semester.
➤ Safe Food Handler exam is a certification exam (it is optional but highly recommended) Can be done Online through SERVSAFE.
Notes/Vocab/Warm-Ups:
➤ Warm-ups/Bell ringers,” WORD of the DAY” Vocabulary & NOTES: Will count as a part of your formative assessment grade and is essential aid in passing the class & exams. EVERYTHING IS ACCESSIBLE ON CANVAS. NO REASON FOR IT NOT TO BE DONE!
Labs:
➤An activity to help both “Enhance and Assess the Comprehension” of the information and develop proper skills in food safety & preparation.
ASSIGNMENTS:
➤ All assignments can be done on line or if requested paper copies will be provided (A grace period of 1 day for full credit.)
➤ Late Work: Anything after the grace period will have an automatic grade reduction of 5pts for each day it remains late and will only be accepted up to 5 days after the assignment grace period by 11:59pm the 5th day. After that you will receive a ZERO.

CLASSROOM RULES:
➤ Be in your assigned seat when the bell rings. Attendance is take at the beginning of class
Tardy ⇨. YOU MUST HAVE A NOTE! ********* PLEASE REFER TO NEW TARDY POLICY POSTED
➤ PLEASE No Interruptions when I’m teaching/lecturing or giving directions. Raise your hand and wait to be called on if you wish to speak in the classroom.
➤ When it is time to work in class; individually or in small groups, students should work in QUIET COOPERATION.
➤ BEHAVE LIKE LADIES & GENTLEMEN spreading gossip, profanity, offensive, vulgar, racial or sexiest slurs are not needed. NO BULLYING!!!!!!! WE KEEP THIS CLASSROOM A SAFE PLACE
➤ You may have bottled water and a snack in the room>>>> YOU MUST CLEAN UP AFTER YOURSELF!!!
➤ PLEASE Do not take what is not yours. Respect the property of others and the school
➤ PLEASE STAY IN YOUR SEATS until the bell has rung & Clean up your area before you leave the classroom.
➤Cell Phones ⇨ I SHOULD NOT HAVE TO SAY ANYTHING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!⇨Standard district policy: Cell phones must be put away during class time.
Penalties for Breaking Rules: 2-verbal warnings,3rd- parent contact, 4th-administrator referral.
YOUR ASSIGNMENTS:➤Use class time to do your assignments. If you finish early you can work on other assignments from another class
➤Students are expected to turn in all assignments on time➤ Late Work: 5 pts will be deducted for each day an assignment is late, and will only be accepted up to 5 days after assignment is due. After that you will receive a zero.
➤Make-Up Work it’s your responsibility to check your “While You Were Out Folder” or Canvas page to get missing notes & assignments (missing work/tests can be made up by scheduling a time with me).
Always double check with Mrs. Miller I am available before and after school and during planning for questions or concerns.
➤BE PROACTIVE!!!!!! ASK for help if you don’t understand or are having any problems of any kind. COMMUNICATE WITH ME. I AM HERE TO HELP & SUPPORT YOU!!!
➤ Stay informed on class happenings by reading my ANNOUNCEMENTS, EMAILS & Week AT A GLANCE in a timely manner (within a day of being sent during the week please) Compose your emails in a respectful manner
