ONLY students will be allowed in the Google Meet so be sure you are logged into your student’s device with their account information to access the Google Meet link.

If extra assistance is needed, I’m available at 7:30 am each morning by appointment. Other appointments can be arranged as needed.

Course Description:

This course is a survey of British literature from the Anglo-Saxons, Middle Ages, and the Renaissance. We will focus on research writing, critical thinking, and evaluation of literature.

All applications are in ClassLink and can be accessed via the Launchpad.  ClassLink can be located in the fcschools.net bookmarks in the top left corner of Chrome. Login information for any Google Workspace application is the student email and password.

Student Access to Coursework:

All course work is posted in Canvas. Students can access coursework by clicking on Modules. Please view the weekly slideshow for detailed information for each class session. To access Canvas:

• Sign into the student device and open Chrome.
• Click fcschools.net bookmarks in the top left corner and select NCEdcloud.
• Log into NCEdcloud with the student number and password
• Username example:  2134567
• Password example:  Lsch123!
• If that information is not known, please contact the teacher to get the information or have a password reset.
• On the Application dashboard, click Canvas.  
• Canvas will open to the listing of enrolled courses

Parent Access to Canvas:

PARENTS:  Please use the following directions to create a Canvas Observer Account:

• Have your student(s) Generate a Pairing Code (this will be different for each student).
• Go to https://fcschools.instructure.com/login/canvas (please bookmark this site so that you can easily access your Observer dashboard for your student(s).
• Click on Parent of a Canvas User in the upper right-hand corner of the window.
• Complete the required information in the window, which will include inputting the student Pairing Code. Multiple students can be added.
• Go to the Dashboard to see your student(s)' courses.
• Parents can sign into this account to easily access their student's courses within Canvas.
• What can parents view as an Observer?

Grading Policy:

Three Categories:

• Classwork & Homework: 25%
• Quizzes: 25%
• Tests & Research Project: 50%

Class Materials:

Please have the following items:

• Folder  (two pocket)
• Notebook
• Blue or black ink pens
• Charged Chromebook
• Charger

Attendance:

Attendance is critical to ensure that students receive all learning opportunities available. If a student is absent, the work will be posted on Canvas and it is the student’s responsibility to check there and complete the work. 

Deadlines/Late Work: 

Deadlines are imperative. Late work is permitted for excused absences only. Excused students will have two days to make up any missing work.

Plagiarism Policy:

This course requires multiple forms of writing, including research and informal assignments. Any student caught plagiarizing, or claiming someone else’s work as their own will receive a parent contact home and will be required to redo the assignment. A zero will be placed in the gradebook until the redone assignment is marked. Continued acts of plagiarism will result in a referral. This applies to all types of plagiarism. Journals:

Journal prompts will be assigned regularly. These will have pre-announced deadlines.

Vocabulary:

Students will have 10 new vocabulary words assigned each week. Students must provide a definition, part of speech, one antonym, and one synonym for each vocabulary word. Students will have to write a vocabulary story or have a vocabulary quiz each week using these vocabulary words. If a vocabulary story is used, a new theme or topic will be provided for each story.

Research Project:

During the second quarter, we will conduct a detailed research project and presentation. Details will be provided at the start of the project. Students will be expected to develop an essential question, consider multiple sides of a relevant issue, utilize databases, research, write, revise, edit, format using MLA-8 standards, and cite sources.

Independent Reading:

We will visit the Library/Media Center one time per month. Students will be required to read four books in the semester that are self-selected. Students will need to take a Reading Counts test and this will count as a test grade. Dates for each book deadline will be pre-announced.
