Course Description

In this course, students are introduced to the industry of sports, entertainment, and event marketing. Students acquire transferable knowledge and skills among related industries for planning sports, entertainment, and event marketing. Topics included are branding, licensing, and naming rights; business foundations; concessions and on-site merchandising; economic foundations; human relations; and safety and security. Mathematics and social studies are reinforced. Work-based learning strategies appropriate include cooperative education, entrepreneurship, internship, mentorship, school-based enterprise, service learning, and job shadowing. Apprenticeship is not available for this course. DECA (an association for Marketing Education students) competitive events, community service, and leadership activities provide the opportunity to apply essential standards and workplace readiness skills through authentic experiences.

Course Materials

Virtual Notebook: Create a Google Folder for this class and share it with me. Students will submit assignments to Canvas, but I will not have access to them unless they are saved in a folder that has been shared with me.

 

Course Evaluation - Grading for this course is based on the following:

Late Work Policy – Students are expected to turn in all assignments by the end of the day on which they are due. If there is any issue, students need to speak to me to resolve it.

 

Make Up Work Policy – It is the student’s responsibility to check Canvas for any missed assignments. It is Franklin County Schools’ policy that a student is given two days to make up work for each day missed.  If a student has any questions about make up work, the student should contact me.  I will be happy to help.

 

Attendance Policy – A student is in danger of failing his/her class if he/she accumulates more than 10 (excused or unexcused) absences in a semester.

 

Online Class Rules

  1. Join the Google meeting for class on time each day (contact me if there is any issue with this)
  2. Turn on your camera. Mute your microphone unless you need to ask a question.
  3. Be respectful and courteous to everyone in the class
  4. Complete your work as assigned
  5. Check your email daily. I will contact you by email
