I am very excited to have you in my Calculus Honors class this semester!!  Each of you will do wonderful, learn lots, and be successful, even with this Covid19 going on - My Motto ---    WORK HARD = BE SMART      Nothing can stop you from learning if you want to learn and Nothing can make you learn if you don't want to learn - - - I'm here to help you reach your math goals !!

GOALS: This Honors Class is the first half of AP Calculus, therefore, I have very high expectations for all of my students.  Our goals and general topics are…

  •        Review Material   (about 1 weeks - Just to wake your brain up ! - I know you may have extra questions about the material you may have not clearly understood last semester, so review may feel on going)
  •         Limits   (about 2 weeks)
  •         Differentials    (about 9 weeks – yes it one of the main calculus ideas and we spend lots of time there learning the new idea and applying it to a variety of  problems)
  •          Introduction to Integrals (2 weeks)
  •          Exam review & Exam (about 2 weeks)

SUPPLIES: Each student is required to have a Chromebook (school supplied), working calculator(time to buy, if possible),  paper, graph paper, plain paper, large supply of pencils, and erasers, and a very flexible attitude.  Something to take clear and readable pictures  of your work to upload.

ABSENCES:  Students should make every effort to be IN class every day - that means log in and ready to go when class starts!    If you miss the class it will be uploaded ASAP  in Modules on Canvas but it takes a while and is a bit grainy (so be here everyday).  It is your responsibility to view it and view supporting documents before saying 'I don't get it'  All test will be taken while you are online and uploaded at the end of the testing period.  Make-up tests will need to be scheduled with me by you (your responsibility)

GRADING POLICY:

60% Summative Assessments  (40% test and 20% quizzes)

40% Formative Assessments  ( homework, class practice, etc)

STUDENT HELP:  First work hard and ask questions in class!, let me know of problem areas and I will try to continue discussion during class or the following day.   I would like to say I will be available to answer all questions all the time  - but realistically, I'm being asked to do a lot.  My pledge is to do the best I can everyday. You are important to me !!  I want to be a great teacher for you during this time.  Check Module for extra problems I have worked out.   I will upload there when I have been asked a question I feel the class could be struggling with.  Students are encouraged to form study groups outside of class  (That’s the way you make it in college)  - study groups should be virtual -  and use the internet to research topics but not copy things you don’t understand!

PARENT ALERT - If you or your child is having problems with a certain topic, there are several ways to find help.

       HAVE A GREAT SEMESTER!!

       Sincerely and with Much Excitement,
