Spanish, LHS
Welcome! I am looking forward to a great semester in Spanish classes. Our first goal is to actively engage students in their language learning process through meaningful activities and recreating real-life situations so students will enhance listening, speaking, reading and writing skills.
Our second goal is to make sure that all students desiring to take higher levels of Spanish will be sufficiently prepared. To address these two goals students will be learning a tremendous amount of new vocabulary and grammatical concepts, which will allow them to apply the new vocabulary to a variety of situations that are culturally relevant and applicable to daily life. We will study the language, culture and traditions to have a better appreciation of other nations and their cultures. I do teach the class in the target language to encourage students to work toward a heightened understanding and usage of that language. However, do not fret just yet… students are allowed to use English to clarify any concept being taught or in individual help sessions.
Tutoring is on Thursdays from 2:45-3:30

How to get more out of the class
Be on time
Be prepared - Have all of your materials with you in class EVERYDAY
Be respectful - Raise your hand to share, never interrupt others, do not ridicule other students who are trying out their language skills; respect everyone’s right to learn and my right to teach. No gum, candy, food or drinks in the classroom.
Be a risk-taker, speak Spanish/French that you learn in class
Be resourceful- Websites, grammar charts, cultural readings
I expect each and every student to stay on task. Remember! You are here to learn a foreign language! However, if one chooses to deviate from these expectations, I will enforce one of the following consequences:
1- Verbal warning 2- ISS 3- Conference with student/parent 4- Administrative referral
In order to engage students, teach responsible use of Internet tools, and encourage learning in my classroom, I use the following tools:
- Quizlet Live
- Padlet
- Weebly
- Kahoot!
- Socrative
