The elementary library curriculum is integrated with classroom units of study. Throughout the year our lessons may also be part of a school-wide activity or project, or a celebration of a holiday or special event. Our lessons could consist of a whole-group activity, long-term project, independent activity, game, multi-media use, literature presentation or exploration centers. Library lessons contain a variety of Common Core State and NC Essential Standards and are presented in creative and interesting ways. The AASL Standards for the 21st-Century Learner and and International Society for Technology in Education Standards for Students are incorporated into lessons when appropriate. A wide spectrum of materials is utilized in the planning and presentation of the curriculum. Along with the lesson, every child has an opportunity to select and check out one or more library books each week, depending on his or her grade level.
