COURSE DESCRIPTION: 

Art Honors is designed for students who wish to continue learning about VISUAL ART.  The exploration of techniques, media, and art appreciation continues from Art I and Art II.  Proficient students work primarily with painting and execution.  Students will be asked to perform at a high level of creativity and craftsmanship. It is a highly independent class that allows the execution of free ideas. Students should realize assignments are designed to exercise their imaginations as well as their application skills.  Portfolios will be developed during this course.

GRADING:

60% Formative - Projects and Tests

40% Summative - Classwork, Artist Exploration, Sketchbook (Bring to Class Everyday), Participation (clean up, discussion, material care, needed materials)

 

ABSENT/MAKE-UP WORK:

Students have the entire quarter to turn in any work with no penalty. We will be working diligently throughout the semester. Be sure not to get behind. 

 

TARDY POLICY:

Be on time for class every day. More than 5 minutes late will be considered skipping. 

MATERIALS NEEDED:

  • Sketchbook - Canson XL Mix Media Pad   9x12, Sketchbook needs to be at least 90 lb paper and 9 x 12
  • Pencils - Any wooden pencil you can find. A dollar store is a great option. 
  • Fine Liners - Pigma Micron™ Fine Line 3 Pen Set, Black 01, 03 & 05
  • Colored Pencils - Crayola Colored Pencils, 12ct. Feel free to buy what is comfortable for you to use. 
  • Drawing Pencils - Sketching & Drawing Set by Artist’s Loft Fundamentals. Buy a range of charcoal/graphite weights, ex. 2B 4B 6B
  • Paint - Needs to be acrylic paint. Can be anything from Liquitex to Apple Barrel. 
  • Paint Brushes - Needs to be a variety of sizes. Would be best to buy a brush set for acrylic paint.
  • Canvas - No bigger than 12x16

TUTORING:

Tutoring is available after school on an as-needed basis. Please see Mrs. Swindell to schedule. 

EXAM EXEMPTIONS:

Exemptions for the final exam are according to the grade and missing days. You can be exempt from the exam if you have: 

4 absences with an A in the class.

3 absences with a B in the class.

2 absences with a C in the class.
