 This middle school course is designed to explore the nature of business in an international economy and to study related careers in fields such as entrepreneurship, financial services, information technology, marketing, office systems technology, public relations and promotion, and travel and tourism. Emphasis is on using the computer while studying applications in these careers along with problem solving and thinking skills. This course contributes to the development of a career development plan.

WEEK 1-  Welcome Back to School!!!  Introductions, School Expectations, Class Procedures, Drills and Acceptable Use Policy.

WEEK 2-  This week we will start working in Module 3 in our Standard Course of Study.  We begin to understand the world of work and skills needed for employment success.

WEEK 3-  This week we will continue working in Module 3 in our Standard Course of Study. In addition, we will explore the (4) Categories of  Work: Job, Occupation, Career, and Volunteer.

WEEK 4-  As we continue working in Module 3 in our Standard Course of Study, we will review the various reasons people participate in the World of Work (Income, Identity, Lifestyle, Contribution, & Satisfaction).

WEEK 5-  This week we will continue working in Module 3 in our Standard Course of Study. We will begin exploring the different Career Clusters that will help our students get an idea of the kinds of careers they may enjoy.

WEEK 6-  This week in Module 3, our class will be identifying key Foundation Skills necessary for employment success (Speaking, Listening, Reading, Math).

WEEK 7-  As we continue working in Module 3, our class will review the importance of Thinking Skills in the workplace (Decision-Making, Problem-Solving, and Creativity).

WEEK 8-  This week our students will learn about the importance of Workplace-Specific skills and how it relates to the use of their Resources, Personal Qualities, and Technological skills.

WEEK 9-  Next week, our class will begin working in Module 4 of our Standard Course of Study. We will discover Where and How to Seek Employment.

WEEK 10-  As we continue working in Module 4 of our Standard Course of Study, we will explore the importance of "Networking" in the world of work.

WEEK 11-  This week our students will learn about the Networking "Do's and Don'ts" when conducting a job search.

WEEK 12-  As we continue working in Module 4, our class will learn about the factors that contribute to changes in the World of Work.

WEEK 13-  This upcoming week our students will learn the various ways job-seekers can find out about job openings.

WEEK 14-  As we continue working in Module 4, our will explore where to seek employment opportunities.

WEEK 15-  This week our students will learn the purpose of a "Career Fair" as it relates to seeking employment.
