Course Description:

Hello and welcome to Visual Arts class! In this class you will be learning about the fundamentals of art/ specific artist- art history/ exploring ideas and learning about how to value and critique artwork in general. The goal of this class is to allow students to explore and make connections with art and everyday life as well as enjoy the process of creating art.

Classroom Rules & Regulations:

The standard school-wide policies and procedures apply here but there are specific guidelines that are to be followed in the classroom.

  1. We do not hate artwork; we critique it. Do not put down your or anyone else's work while in the class. We are all learning/ improving.
  2. Make sure you respect the class’s workspace/ supplies. Be considerate of others who will be using the materials/spaces in the classroom. Keep your work area clean and the materials nice.
  3. Make sure to respect your artwork. Store, present and submit your work like it is worth a million bucks. Turning in “roughly-handled/ hard to see” work can cause you to lose points.
  4. Warm Ups/ Exit TIckets are to be Completed at the beginning and end of every class. Warm Ups and Exit Tickets will be Submitted at the beginning and end of each class period
  5. Use your time wisely.  Deadlines will always approach sooner than you expect and I will not be able to accept work after certain dates so keep this in mind as you work in the class.

Submissions/Grades:

Students and Parents are advised to keep an eye out on your student’s grades during the semester.  I will be sending out a weekly message to parents about what we are working on in class/ what will be due. This information will also be available in Google Classroom in the Class Announcements and on the assignment information tabs. Please be aware that I do not give out extra credit assignments for missing work.

Grading Scale:

A: 100-90

B: 89-80

C:79-70

D:69-60

F: Below 60

We will be submitting assignments into Google Classroom this semester as either an image/ google slide presentation or google doc.

Sketchbooks:

The Sketchbooks are your safety net/parachutes for the semester. If you miss an assignment you can submit to me The Warm ups, Exit tickets AND examples  of the week prior  to help boost your grade for an assignment. You can only do this 3 times during the whole semester so do not think of this as a get out of jail free card. I will be keeping track of sketchbook submissions in a Google doc & spreadsheet.

Some things to remember

  1. Art class is supposed to be chill so don’t stress and have fun!
  2. It is ok to not like your artwork, But keep working on it. You’ll be surprised at how much a little bit more time and effort can do for a piece.
  3. If you finish early, you can quietly free draw, read or work on another assignment.
  4. Please feel free to talk to/email me if you have any questions/ concerns or if you just need to talk. My class is a safe space and I am here to help and support you guys.
  5. I love sending home “good job” notes/ emails and I love seeing the work you all do outside of class so feel free to show me.
