Course Syllabus

Welcome!

My name is Georganna Davis and I will be your science teacher this year! I'm an experienced educator, with over 10 years of experience teaching an assortment of science courses, but the majority of my teaching career has also been devoted to Bunn High School. BHS is near and dear to my heart because I am a BHS Graduate, my goal is to help you find success this semester together as we do science.

During my time at BHS, I have had the opportunity to teach an assortment of science courses. The exploration of science is interesting, engaging, and often challenging. We are all in this together in my class, and I want to empower my students to master the course. Remember, You Can Do Hard Things!

Earth Science (Honors) Course Description:  In this course, we will focus on the study of four different spheres of Earth; the lithosphere, the hydrosphere, the atmosphere, and the biosphere. We will also look at how Earth’s position in space affects some processes on Earth. Throughout this course is an environmental theme, where we will examine the human population's impact on the environment.

Physical Science Course Description:  This course consists of two major parts – physics and chemistry.  In the physics unit, you will cover motion, speed & velocity, forces and work, conservation of energy and how energy is transferred, electricity and magnetism.  In the chemistry unit, you will cover the types of matter and their properties, the structure of atoms and the periodic table of elements, chemical bonds & reactions, and nuclear chemistry.

Chemistry (Honors) Course Description:  This traditional college-prep course focuses on basic chemical concepts. The objective of this course is to develop a student’s working knowledge of the principal concepts involved in chemistry. The student will become familiar with the basic vocabulary and calculations of chemistry and will be able to express the basic concepts of atoms, molecules, chemical reactions, and physical properties of matter. Laboratory experiments are used throughout the year to demonstrate the experimental foundations of the subject matter.

APES Course Description: The goal of the AP Environmental Science course is to provide you with the scientific principles, concepts, and methodologies required to understand the interrelationships of the natural world, to identify and analyze environmental problems both natural and human-made, to evaluate the relative risks associated with these problems, and to examine alternative solutions for resolving and/or preventing them.

AP Chem Course Description: AP Chemistry is an introductory college-level chemistry course. Students cultivate their understanding of chemistry through inquiry-based lab investigations as they explore the four Big Ideas: scale, proportion, and quantity; structure and properties of substances; transformations; and energy.
