Required Supplies:

 1- 3-Ring Binder (1’’ to 2’’) ONLY IF DOING PAPER

 6-Tab Dividers for class binder  ONLY IF DOING PAPER

 Pencil, Blue or Black ink pen

 FOR LABS:  1- Plastic Food Container

1 Bottle of dish soap  (Any size or kind) OR

1- Roll of paper towels

 Course Description: 

Students experience the cross section of nutrition science and food preparation, while building skills for an expanding range of career opportunities. Emphasis is placed on health and social responsibility while improving the way people eat. Students explore food protection, nutrients, life cycle nutrition, sports nutrition, medical nutrition therapy, and american and global foodways.


Course Main Objectives: 

1.0  Understand culinary nutrition careers and food safety management (SERVSAFE is Obj 1.02-1.04)

2.0  Understand culinary nutrition principles and applications

3.0  Understand foodways in America and around the world

4.0  Analyze culinary nutrition opportunities to meet the needs of customer-clients

Grading Criteria:

Formative Assessments:

Classwork: Notes, Vocab etc.              40%

Summative Assessments:                  

Quizzes                                                  20%

Objective/Unit Tests & Labs               40%

Tests/Exams:

➤  Regular Objective/Unit Tests will be announced several days in advance and are on QUIA website.

STATE EOC EXAM. TBD at this time  Take advantage of all assignments, quizzes & reviews done throughout the semester. 

Safe Food Handler/Manager CERTIFICATION Exam (is optional but highly recommended) We do Online through SERVSAFE.

Notes/Vocab/Warm-Ups

Warm-ups/Bell ringers, Vocabulary & NOTES: Will count as a part of your formative assessment grade and is essential aid in passing the class & exams

       1-  EVERYTHING IS ACCESSIBLE & SUBMITTED ON CANVAS 

               **IF NEEDED:  A Class NOTEBOOK ( 3 ring binder w/ dividers) for paper copies can be used and should include the following: Warm-ups/Bell ringers, Objective Notes, Vocabulary.  

      2-CNV Notebook (portfolio) this is for your final culinary venture project in OBJ 4.02 This can also be done in a paper or an electronic format

Labs

➤An activity to help both “Enhance and Assess the Comprehension” of the information and develop proper skills in food safety & preparation. Student Lab groups work cooperatively and properly filled out Lab paperwork is part of the grade not just the fact that you cooked.

Class Rules:

Be in your Assigned Seat when the bell rings.

PLEASE DON’T TALK OR INTERRUPT ME when I’m teaching or giving directions. YOU WILL MOST LIKELY MISS SOMETHING IMPORTANT. If you need something PLEASE: Raise your hand and wait to be called on.

PLEASE BE IN DRESS CODE: I don’t want to be the FASHION POLICE !! You know what is and isn’t permitted.

BEHAVE LIKE LADIES & GENTLEMEN. Profanity, vulgar, racial or sexiest slurs  not needed

Food or Drink in class: Bottled water/beverages in clear containers & small snacks is permissible. BUT YOU MUST CLEAN UP AFTER YOURSELVES. 

Do not take what is not yours.  Respect the property of others and the school

STAY IN YOUR SEATS UNTIL THE BELL HAS RUNG!! & Clean up your area before you leave the classroom.

CELL PHONES ⇨ I SHOULD NOT HAVE TO SAY ANYTHING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!⇨Standard district policy:  Cell phone use will be permitted once lecture/notes classwork/assignments are completed. 

 Penalties for Breaking Rules: 2-verbal warnings, parent contact, administrator referral.

ASSIGNMENTS:Use class time for class wisely.  Make all of your work count!!

➤ When it is time to do classwork; individually or in small groups, work in QUIET COOPERATION.  

➤Students are expected to turn in all assignments on time when present in class  and placed in their assigned Table Folder. 

Late Work: A 2 day grace period is allowed to receive full credit. Points will then be deducted for each day an assignment is late. You have 5 days after the grace period to turn in an assignment. After that time you will receive a ZERO

Make-Up Work it’s your responsibility to check your “While You Were Out Folder” or Canvas page to get missing notes & assignments (missing work/tests can be made up as soon as possible. I am available before and after school and during planning for questions or concerns.

Tardy To Class ⇨ 1st period Between 8:15-8:45 report directly to the classroom. If past 8:45 you must check in at the office. All  other class periods you will be marked after the bell has rung unless YOU HAVE A NOTE!  ********* PLEASE REFER TO NEW TARDY POLICY POSTED

Bathroom Go between classes.  During class I understand that emergencies will happen and will work with students as needed. One person at a time. Sign out and take the pass. PLEASE DO ABUSE THIS you are missing out on class time.

Be PROACTIVE!!!! ASK for HELP if you don’t understand or are having any problems of any kind. COMMUNICATE with me  I AM HERE TO HELP & SUPPORT YOU!!!
