What you will learn

Course Description

The purpose of this student-centered program is a continuation after a successful completion of Math 1. Mathematical concepts will include Number and Operations, Algebra, Functions, Geometry and Statistics.  Students will be modeling real numbers, quantities, seeing structure in expressions, arithmetic with polynomial expressions, creating equations, interpreting functions, building functions, factoring functions making inferences and proving Geometrical relationships.

This year, our focus will be on enhancing all students problem-solving skills.  Students will be encouraged to explore math from different perspective.  The most important skills you will need to be successful in this class are perseverance and a positive growth mindset.

  • Course Expectations

You can be successful if you take responsibility for your own progress.

    • Be Respectful.
    • Profanity and/or disrespect will not be tolerated.  Follow directions the first time they are given.
    • Stay focused. (No head on desk.  No sleeping. No earbuds or headphones unless we are using for class purposes.

    No texting/cell phone use.)

    • Do not pack up until the teacher says you may do so and stay in your seat until the bell rings.
    • Keep the area on and around your desk clean.
    • If you disagree with my approach, philosophy, your personal grade, etc. . . Let’s discuss it, BUT not during class time.  See me before or after school.
    • Be Prepared.
    • Come to class ready to learn.  Bring notebook, pencil, etc. to class EVERY day.
    • Be in your seat before the tardy bell rings!
    • Be Positive.
    • Believe that you can do it and you will.  Be willing to TRY!
    • Be Responsible.
      • Keep up with materials and make sure your notebook stays organized.
      • Let me know when you are having trouble and get extra help from me or from another source.
    • Complete ALL classwork and homework.
    • Be Honest and Have Integrity.
    • Students who cheat or allow students to cheat off of them will receive a ZERO on the assignment or test.  You will not be given the opportunity to retest or redo the assignment.  Appropriate work must be shown on all assignments, including tests, to receive credit.
    • Copying another student’s homework or allowing someone to copy your homework is cheating!  Spend your time actually learning the material instead of trying to find ways to cheat.
