COURSE DESCRIPTION -  This course will address six periods of study in World History with a key focus of study from the mid-15th Century to the present.  Our curriculum is based on the North Carolina Essential Standards.

EXPECTATIONS - This class is not simply a notes-based class. There will be many hands-on activities as well as group activities and whole-class discussions. It is my expectation that you will participate to the best of your ability. It is my expectation that you complete all assignments.  The primary location of your work will be on Google Classroom. Some things will be in duplicate here in Canvas but you are expected to complete your work in Google Classroom.

GRADING POLICY: The final grade will be a weighted average of the two terms (40% each) and the Final Exam (20%).

Grades for each term will be weighted according to the following percentages by assignment type.

Starters                                           10%

Classwork                                        20%

Quizzes                                           30%

Tests/Projects                                40%

The following grading scale will be used to assign letter grades:

A 90 - 100

B 80 - 89

C 70 - 79

D 60 – 69

F 0 - 59

All work is expected to be turned in on time. If you cannot submit an assignment on time it is your responsibility to reach out to me.

If you make less than a 65 on an assignment you may resubmit the assignment for a higher grade. This can be done until 1 week before progress reports/grades are due to be submitted. In short, you have a 4.5 week period to resubmit any assignment on which you made a 65 or less.

GUIDELINES & LANGUAGE POLICY - All school and classroom rules & expectations fall under four simple guidelines.

Respect yourself & your future.                         Respect your fellow students & their right to learn.

Respect your teacher.                                               Respect your school community & property.

The use of profanity & derogatory language goes against all four of the guidelines.  My classroom is a place where everyone should feel comfortable, included, and free to share their thoughts and ideas, whether we are in person, virtual, or a combination.  I DO NOT tolerate the use of racial or gender slurs

As a reminder everything you do and say online is forever; if you would be concerned if I were to screenshot something you said and send it to your parents you should probably not say it. When we're having discussions you are expected to conduct yourself in a professional manner which includes being kind and courteous to others who may share a different opinion from you.

You must wear your mask, from nose to chin, at all times unless told otherwise. If you must be reminded 5 times your parent will be contacted and a referral will be written. Continued referrals will result in suspensions.

PROJECTS & PLAGIARISM

I firmly believe in hands-on investigative learning.  Large amounts of time will be given in class to complete projects. It is my expectation that you are being respectful of my time and using your time wisely.

Plagiarism: the practice of taking someone else's work or ideas and passing them off as your own.

Plagiarism is STEALING!  If you are caught plagiarizing your work (copying another student’s work, copy and pasting, taking work directly from the internet, using any work that is not authentically yours or cited) you will receive a zero and the principal will be notified.  Continued acts of plagiarism will result in a referral.
