Course Outline 
- Students in English I will read and discuss both classical and contemporary literature
- Grammar, usage, and mechanics
- English I Honors focuses on encouraging students to think critically while  developing and building academic writing, speaking and listening skills. 
- Current events- students will draw links between literature and current events. We will explore matters of relativity, and make connections between what we read in the classroom and current real world situations
- Students will complete a major assignment (paper, project, assemblage, essay, etc.) for each literary selection we cover in class  


Online Tools 
Canvas- this will be the primary learning management system for this course. Students should be able to log in and access this course through their myncedcloud portal.
Google Classroom- Students will be enrolled in Google classroom to access learning resources and also attend Google meets when necessary. All assignments will be delivered and graded through Canvas while additional resources will be available in Google classroom. This model serves to increase student success, engagement, and accountability by giving students multiple places to access essential information

Grading:
The grading scale for this course is 
A= 90-100              B = 80-90                 C= 70-80               D = 60-70             F = <59
Students are expected to turn in all assignments on time. 

LATE POLICY A reduction of 10% will be given for each day an assignment is late, up to 3 days excluding absences and and extenuating circumstances 

ABSENCES  If a student is absent, it is their responsibility to make up the assignment(s). The student should communicate with the instructor if there are any questions, or to receive additional guidance

Mission Statement: Franklin County Early College High School’s mission is to provide small learning communities to prepare students for academic rigor, relevant coursework to build school and community relationships embracing 21st century skills.  
The framework of the early college high school is to ensure each student earns a high school diploma and a two-year degree or transferable college credits in five years or less. Another objective of the early college high school is to improve high school graduation, college attendance and completion rate and to integrate students into the college culture at the high school level.

Have your student(s) Generate a Pairing Code (this will be different for each student).
Go to https://fcschools.instructure.com/login/canvas (bookmark this site so that you can easily access your Observer dashboard for your student(s).
Click on Parent of a Canvas User? in the upper right-hand corner of the window.
Complete the required information in the window, which will include inputting the student Pairing Code. Multiple students can be added.
Go to the Dashboard to see your student(s)' courses.
Parents can sign into this account to easily access their student's courses within Canvas.
