*If you do not wish for your student to use these tools, please complete THIS FORM and email it to me.
Students will access course information by clicking on Modules. Each assignment will be listed under Modules for the current week. The assignment will be labeled by the day. Students will need their student number and password for NCEdcloud. If you have questions about the student login, please email me.
PARENTS: Use the following directions to create a Canvas Observer Account
- Have your student(s) Generate a Pairing Code (Links to an external site.) (this will be different for each student).
- Go to https://fcschools.instructure.com/login/canvas (bookmark this site so that you can easily access your Observer dashboard for your student(s).
- Click on Parent of a Canvas User? in the upper right-hand corner of the window.
- Complete the required information in the window, which will include inputting the student Pairing Code. Multiple students can be added.
- Go to the Dashboard to see your student(s)' courses.
- Parents can sign into this account to easily access their student's courses within Canvas.
- What can parents view as an Observer?

Syllabus
COURSE DESCRIPTION
This course focuses on surveying and analyzing literary types such as the short story, the novel, plays, poetry, and nonfiction texts. English I further reinforces a study of standard grammar usage, mechanics, and vocabulary.
MATERIALS AND BEING PREPARED
Materials for in-person instruction this semester include: A 3 ring binder, loose-leaf paper, writing utensils, and highlighters. Being prepared also involves consistently having a charged Chromebook and charger daily; however, other technologies including cell phones or other electronics are not to be seen during instruction. Unless given permission otherwise, any cell phones being used consistently will result in a referral.
ATTENDANCE
Google Meet sessions are required on synchronous days. If you miss a Google Meet that day, you will only be counted present if you fully complete an assignment for that day. Turning in a previous assignment or submitting that day's assignment after 11:59 PM the day of the missed Google Meet will not count towards your attendance.
MAKE UP WORK POLICY
Students are responsible for inquiring about late or missed work after they return to class. Contacting Ms. Brown via email is best: sydneybrown@fcschools.net
PLAGIARISM
This course requires multiple forms of writing, including research and informal assignments. Any student caught plagiarizing, or claiming someone else’s work as their own, will receive a 0 for the assignment with no opportunity to makeup the assignment. Continued acts of plagiarism will result in a referral.
CLASS GRADE BREAKDOWN
The final grade will be a weighted average of the two terms (40% each) and the final exam (20%).
Grades for each term will be weighted according to the following percentages by assignment type: Tests/Quizzes/Essays 60% Homework/Classwork 40% |
