1. Go to Power school and check if any assignments are labeled as missing, and write down the date(s).
2. Confirm in your Sent emails that your assignment was or wasn't sent. If you sent the assignment via email and it is still labeled as missing, simply forward your original email to me again, and no points will be taken off for late submission. If you didn't send it via email because you didn't do it then...
3. Go to Canvas in another Chrome tab to check the Weekly agenda for the day(s). The right hand column for each day has the day's assignment unless otherwise stated in...
4. All of this semester's Live Session recordings can be found from a link at the top of your home Canvas page, organized by date and class period. Use this to locate the day(s) with missing assignments and watch the session (or at least the last 10-15 minutes to catch the wrap up and assignment rundown) for any clarification.
Late work is better than no work! I just want to help you succeed!!

Course Description

This course is designed to give the student an enriching and diverse instrumental music education. The daily objective of the course is to foster and promote musical growth through the playing of an instrument by the student and through instruction on music theory and history. As a member of the band family, focused individual effort and flexibility is necessary for success. Band is a skilled effort in which each student is expected to show technical and musical growth throughout this course.

Required Materials

  • Instrument
  • Supplies (reeds, valve oil, drumsticks, etc)
  • Chromebook

Class Expectations

Each day, you will be expected to attend the live session with your instructor in a timely manner, as well as complete that day’s playing or written assignment. These assignments will vary in length and difficulty, but will be very achievable within the designated class period. It is imperative that you complete these playing or written assignments when they are assigned rather than putting them off to avoid deductions for late submissions and the stress of playing catch-up at the end of the grading period.

Virtual Learning Etiquette

  • Mute your microphone and/or turn off video when joining live sessions to eliminate distractions from instruction.
  • Put your cell phone away during live sessions. Give me the time and attention I need to teach you, please!
  • Do not work on assignments from other classes during live sessions.
  • Be willing to comment. Discussions go much slower when no one talks or types!

Grading

50% - Formative Assessments (small playing assignments, music theory exercises, comprehension checks, etc)

50% - Summative Assessments (full performances of pieces, music theory and history quizzes and tests, etc)
