1.- Syllabus -Spanish III - IV HONORS

2 Prerequisite: Spanish II          

 Description: This course is designed with an in-depth view of the Spanish language. Students will form complex sentence structures and sustain lengthy conversations. Communication skills are developed and enhanced. The course will provide an opportunity for students to gain insights into Spanish-speaking cultures. The purpose of this course is to provide many experiences where students can use Spanish. Completely immersed in Spanish, students speak, listen, read, write, and collaborate with other students in Spanish. They also can gain knowledge and perspectives about Spanish-speaking countries and from Spanish-speaking people.

3  Materials required
1. Chromebook and 01 Headset (headphones with microphone)
2. Spanish English- English Spanish Dictionary Approx. Size 8.5” x 5.5” (no smaller or mini ones)
Suggestions: VOX Compact Spanish and English Dictionary /Barron’s Spanish and English Dictionary
3. 01 Two inches 3 ring binder and loose leaf paper
4. 5 subject dividers
5. 4” x 6” ruled Index card (100)
6. Sharpie Assorted Colors Set of 8 colors or more
7. Highlighters (5 different colors)
8. 01 black, 01 red pen and 01 blue pen
9. 01 Mechanical pencil

  1. Spanish Canvas Website and Online Responsibility Learning Management System (LMS) Canvas.

In this LMS (Spanish website), students can submit online assignments, study, and also review and practice daily class material. Students can also find: daily class material as well as grammar slides used in class, vocabulary, audio practice pronunciation, and resources for review.

 5. Virtual Classroom Expectations for Students

 Students at all levels are now engaging in virtual class check-in sessions on Google Meet. To ensure a positive and productive learning environment during these sessions, it is important that all students adhere to the following behavioral expectations.

 Rules

  1. Student have to log in in Canvas with their NC-Ed Cloud student account, 5 minutes before the virtual classroom session begins. This will be the proof for daily attendance.
  2. Click the link on the Canvas Website Live Classroom Session Spanish
  3. Turn your camera off and mute your microphone
  4. Minimize background noise
  5. Have your notebook and pen/pencil to take notes
  6. Listen actively and Stay Focused
  7. Be respectful

Student Responsibilities:

  1. Log in daily on assigned meeting times
  2. Ask/Answer questions
  3. Take turns participating daily in classroom discussions
  4. Complete online assignments, projects, quizzes and test and turn in work on time
  5. Work independently or in groups (when assigned)
  6. Be an active member of the virtual community

 Unacceptable Behavior:

  1. Vulgarity (no cursing, vulgar language, or inappropriate gestures, memes
  2. Negative feedback on other’s work and /or comments
  3. Posting negativity, bully others in chat
  4. Unacceptable noises in background- loud music, noisy pets
  5. No smoking, vaping, drinking alcohol beverages

General Housekeeping Reminders:

  1. Minimize background noise by turning off the TV and radio
  2. Stay Focused! Avoid multitasking during class!
  3. Mute your microphones until it is your turn to speak.

 

6. Plagiarism: Plagiarism is a very serious violation of academic integrity:

a) If your formative or summative assessment is a product of a translation device, Spanish Speaker or just copy from your friend or from the book or the internet you will receive a zero for the entire work
b) Essays and researchYour teacher will run a plagiarism software to check the authenticity of your essay, online assignment or any other work. 
c) Translation Clause: The use of any translation device on the Internet, computer software or native Spanish speaker completing your work, is considered cheating.
d) If your teacher detects plagiarism, you will earn a zero.

We are going to have Formative and Summative Assessments 

7. Assignments

  1. All work must be your own! Do not ask other students, relatives, or friends for help on classwork/assignments
  2. Do NOT copy classwork, quiz answers or any other assignments from other students.
  3. Assignments should be done by students
  4. Assignments need to be done on the website after you submitted your work automatically you will have a grade for completing your assignment.
  5. Students have to complete 100% online assignment, there is no possibility to skip the questions and /or leave unanswered.
  6. Every time you take the online assignment,  you have to make sure you press the SUBMIT button, otherwise, the system will not record your answers and your grade will record as a zero.
  7. Please, do not be deceived by your child telling you that he/she does not have any assignments.   If there is no written assignment, there is always the assignment of the oral practice of the language.

8 Formative assessment (online classwork) You will need headphones

Formative assessments: cover grammar, pronunciation, reading, vocabulary, and other content discussed during class. 

Important:
Formative assessments will have four (4) attempts and you will have immediate feedback with answers after your last attempt. 

Improve your grade

 If you want to improve your grade, this is the opportunity you need to take. Use all of your attempts and get a better grade.

Extra work

There is no extra work to improve your grade. The extra work is complete every assignment on time and use all of your attempts

9. Summative assessment (Test) You will need headphones

 The Summative assessment will check your understanding of the material we have learned.

Summative assessment includes listening comprehension, grammar, written composition, speaking, and reading.

👉 You will have only one attempt, use your time wisely

There is NO other attempt (This is a TEST)

You cannot stop and/ or resume the test.

Questions will be lock after answering

Important:

Do NOT copy formative or summative assessment or any other assignments from other students. That is considered plagiarism, and both students will earn a zero.

Canvas software record everything, your answers, what time do you started the assessment, how long it takes to complete and what time did you finish it.

10. Live Class

 a) If you are in a live class (present in class or from home) and we work on one assessment, please, star working immediately. I will be monitoring trough Canvas.

b) If you did not start the assessment, Canvas will show me that you did not start working or you did not do it. This is the time when you can ask questions where we are working in a live class.

c)If you decide not to do it and work later probably you will miss answers to many questions and explanation for the next assessment.

 

11.Communication with Parents

If you ever have any questions, please do not hesitate to call or email me.  If you have an urgent matter, please email me with a good time to reach you on the telephone.  It will be easier to communicate more effectively this way.
