Spanish Course II - Remote Learning Syllabus Fall 2020 Syllabus

  1. Course Description- Spanish II

  This course will concentrate on the continuing development of specific language skills in accordance with the North Carolina Standard Course of Study. The emphasis in this level is placed on the development of the four skills of listening, speaking, reading, and writing within a given context. The context focuses on the students’ lives and experiences and includes an exposure to everyday customs and lifestyles. Grammar is integrated throughout the course. A general introduction to the culture, its products (e.g., education, literature, laws, foods, games,) perspectives (e.g., attitudes, values, beliefs,) and practices (patterns of social interaction) is integrated throughout the course. Students acquire some insight into how language and cultures work by comparing the target language and culture(s) to their own. Integration of other disciplines is ongoing throughout the course.

  1. Objectives:
  • Discuss past actions using the preterit tense of regular, irregular and stem-changing verbs.
  • Describe past occurrences using the imperfect tense of regular and irregular verbs.
  • Narrate in the past, appropriately using both the preterit and imperfect tenses.
  • Express the duration of an action in the past or one continuing to the present.
  • Discuss what they and others have done in the past using the present perfect tense.
  • Write short compositions related to everyday life and past experiences.
  • Read short texts related to everyday life, past events and cultural themes.
  • Discuss different cultures and countries within the Hispanic world.
  • Identify similarities and differences between Hispanic and non-Hispanic cultures.

3. Materials required

  • Chromebook and 01 Headset (headphones with microphone)
  1. Spanish Canvas Website and Online Responsibility Learning Management System (LMS) Canvas.

In this LMS (Spanish website), students can submit online assignments, study, and also review and practice daily class material. Students can also find: daily class material as well as grammar slides used in class, vocabulary, audio practice pronunciation, and resources for review.

 5. Virtual Classroom Expectations for Students

 Students at all levels are now engaging in virtual class check-in sessions on Google Meet. To ensure a positive and productive learning environment during these sessions, it is important that all students adhere to the following behavioral expectations.

 Rules

  1. Student have to log in in Canvas with their NC-Ed Cloud student account, 5 minutes before the virtual classroom session begins. This will be the proof for daily attendance.

  3. Turn your camera off and mute your microphone
  4. Minimize background noise
  5. Have your notebook and pen/pencil to take notes
  6. Listen actively and Stay Focused
  7. Be respectful

Student Responsibilities:

  1. Log in daily on assigned meeting times
  2. Ask/Answer questions
  3. Take turns participating daily in classroom discussions
  4. Complete online assignments, projects, quizzes and test and turn in work on time
  5. Work independently or in groups (when assigned)
  6. Be an active member of the virtual community

 Unacceptable Behavior:

  1. Vulgarity (no cursing, vulgar language, or inappropriate gestures, memes
  2. Negative feedback on other’s work and /or comments
  3. Posting negativity, bully others in chat
  4. Unacceptable noises in background- loud music, noisy pets
  5. No smoking, vaping, drinking alcohol beverages

General Housekeeping Reminders:

  1. Minimize background noise by turning off the TV and radio
  2. Stay Focused! Avoid multitasking during class!
  3. Mute your microphones until it is your turn to speak.

 

6. Plagiarism: Plagiarism is a very serious violation of academic integrity:

a) If your classwork, online assignment, quiz or test is a product of a translation device, Spanish Speaker or just copy from your friend or from the book or the internet you will receive a zero for the entire work
b) Essays and researchYour teacher will run a plagiarism software to check the authenticity of your essay, online assignment or any other work. 
c) Translation Clause: The use of any translation device on the Internet, computer software or native Spanish speaker completing your work, is considered cheating.
d) If your teacher detects plagiarism, you will earn a zero.

We are going to have Formative and Summative Assessments 

Assignments

  1. A Spanish-English Dictionary.
  2. The student will use their dictionary to look up unknown words in class. Students are not allowed to use cell phones or chrome books in class to replace dictionaries.
  3. All work must be your own! Do not ask other students, relatives, or friends for help on classwork/assignments
  4. Do NOT copy classwork, quiz answers or any other assignments from other students.
  5. Assignments should be done by students
  6. Assignments need to be done on the website after you submitted your work automatically you will have a grade for completing your assignment.
  7. Assignments will have two attempts (Quizzes one attempt) and you will have immediate feedback with answers after your last attempt.
  8. Online assignments and/or Quizzes will have a limited time from 20 up to 45 minutes.
  9. Students have to complete 100% online assignment and quizzes, there is no possibility to skip the questions and /or leave unanswered.
  10. Every time you take the online assignment and/or quiz, you have to make sure you press the SUBMIT button, otherwise, the system will not record your answers and your grade will record as a zero.
  11. Please, do not be deceived by your child telling you that he/she does not have any assignments.   If there is no written assignment, there is always the assignment of the oral practice of the language. 
  12. Quizzes

The quiz will check your understanding of the material we have learned. Quizzes cover vocabulary, grammar, and other content discussed during class.   1. Tests or Projects

This category includes tests and projects. The test includes listening comprehension, written composition, speaking, and reading.

  1. Communication with Parents

If you ever have any questions, please do not hesitate to call or email me.  If you have an urgent matter, please email me with a good time to reach you on the telephone.  It will be easier to communicate more effectively this way.
