Course Description

Students in the 6th grade focus on active engagement with numbers by focusing on conceptual understanding, computational and procedural skills, and problem solving. The 6th grade standards require students to study the following areas: rational numbers, algebraic thinking, proportional reasoning, statistics, data analysis, probability, and plane and solid shapes. Students will increase their understanding of the course material by participating in homework, class work, quizzes, tests, group and individual projects, independent problem solving, and oral presentations.

Office Hours

Each 6th grade teacher will have office hours from 2:30-3:00pm on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday. Teachers will be continuously checking their emails throughout the day so feel free to contact us whenever you have a question or concern!

  2. Chromebook laptops are the ONLY devices used in class and for educational purposes only.
  3. Raise your hand to speak or leave your seat during instruction.
  4. Prior to leaving class, everyone will assist in making sure the room is picked up and everything is returned to its original place.

Curriculum

We will follow the North Carolina Math Standards for the 6th Grade; however, if it is observed that your child is able to complete these standards with 80% mastery, he/she will be challenged on higher levels.

Math Notebooks

Math journals/notebooks are essential to this class. Math notebooks will be used to take notes on all standards that will be taught in class. This is to be used to complete homework assignments and completing class assignments. We will be using composition notebooks. (Your child may need more than the one required book as stated on the supply list depending on how large the write and the number of notes we take in class.)

Classroom Rules

  1. Raise your hand before speaking
  2. Follow ALL directions
  3. NO cellphones in class
