Welcome to Physical Science!!!! I absolutely cannot wait to meet each of you (even if it is virtually)! We will get through this together and know that I am always here for you.

Description

This course is broken down into two sections: Chemistry and Physics. We will cover the following units: The Nature of Matter, Diversity of Matter, Interactions of Matter, Energy & Motion, Electricity & Energy Resources and Energy on the Move.

Materials

Charged Chromebook

Notebook or small binder (for vocabulary)

Paper

Pencils

Calculator (can use the one on your Chromebook)

Earbuds

Attendance

Attendance is very important and will be documented daily. There will be two ways the student can be counted present for the day.

  1. Attending a Google Meet
  2. Completing daily assignment

After a student’s 3rd absence, contact will be made with the student and/or parent.

Grading

Numerical grades will be assigned this semester. The breakdown is as follows:

  • Classwork & Homework  - 40%
  • Tests & Projects - 40%
  • Quiz - 20%

Remote Grading Policy

Assignments will be posted daily and due that same day by 11:59pm. There will be a 15 point deduction for each day it is late. After 5 days you will receive a zero.

After a student’s 3rd zero, contact will be made with the student and/or parent.

Google Folders

You will create a folder in your Google Drive for each unit as well as a folder for Warm-Ups. You will “house” ALL of your information here. There will be periodic folder checks that will count as a grade.

Vocabulary

There will be an abundance of vocabulary terms in this course. It is extremely important that you know them. You will have vocabulary for each unit. You will be required to define those terms on paper, highlight, circle or put a box around the term and submit a picture of your work. (Writing typically helps us to remember things a little better.)  These terms will be kept in your notebook or small binder.

Make-up Work

If a student is absent, they are allowed two school days to make-up any missed assignment.  After the two-day period has passed, any missing assignments become late work. It is the student’s responsibility to visit the course Canvas Assignments Page or email me directly to get the assignments they have missed.

Daily Class Recordings

Daily class recordings will be in the “Google Meet Live Recordings” module on the Canvas page. If you are absent or need to revisit something covered in class please use this resource.

FCS Grading Policy

A = 90 to 100, B = 80 to 89, C = 70 to 79, D = 60 to 69, F = Less than 60. The final course grade will be calculated by averaging each of the student’s nine weeks grades (at 40% weight each) and Final Exam grade (at 20% weight). Final letter grades will be assigned based upon the resulting average and using the scale above.
