Physical Science Course Description:  Physical Science is a semester-long course that investigates the fundamentals of physics and chemistry. During Q1, we will investigate force, motion, and energy, electricity, magnetism, and waves and use our math skills. During Q2, we will investigate the properties of matter, atomic structure, and chemical reactions, chemical solutions, and radioactivity.

Chemistry Honors Course Description:   Chemistry will serve as an introduction to important concepts in chemistry.  Students will be expected to develop a conceptual understanding of these concepts through investigations and experimentation. Concepts include:

  • Analyze the structure of atoms and ions.
  • Understand the bonding that occurs in simple compounds in terms of bond type, strength, and properties.
  • Understand the physical and chemical properties of atoms based on their positions in the periodic table.
  • Understand the relationship between pressure, temperature, volume, and phase.
  • Analyze the chemical reactions in terms of quantities, product formation, and energy.
  • Understand the factors affecting the rate of reaction and chemical equilibrium.
  • Understand solutions and the solution process.

APES Course Description:  The goal of the AP Environmental Science course is to provide you with the scientific principles, concepts, and methodologies required to understand the interrelationships of the natural world, to identify and analyze environmental problems both natural and human-made, to evaluate the relative risks associated with these problems, and to examine alternative solutions for resolving and/or preventing them.

AP Chem Course Description:  AP Chemistry is an introductory college-level chemistry course. Students cultivate their understanding of chemistry through inquiry-based lab investigations as they explore the four Big Ideas: scale, proportion, and quantity; structure and properties of substances; transformations; and energy.
