Course Description:
This course examines the nutritional needs of the individual. Emphasis is placed on fundamentals of food production, kitchen and meal management, food groups and their preparation and time and resource management.
Course Standards Outline: 1.0 Understand the relationship between food choices and health 2.0 Understand methods for food preparation(NC Safe Plates “New” Obj 2.02) 3.0 Understand procedures, equipment and cooking methods in food preparation 4.0 Understand procedures, equipment and techniques applied to baking production 5.0 Understand the principles of etiquette for meal service 6.0 To apply methods for meal planning and preparation |
Grading Criteria: Formative Assessments: Notes/Vocab/Worksheets 40% SummativeAssessments: Quizzes 30% Unit Tests, Projects & Labs 30% |
Tests/Exams:
➤ Regular Objective/Section tests will be announced several days in advance. Reminders POSTED on CANVAS ANNOUNCEMENTS
➤ State EOC exam. WILL BE TAKE IN PERSON Take advantage of all assignments, quizzes & reviews done throughout the semester.
➤ Safe Food Handler exam is a certification exam (it is optional but highly recommended) Can be done Online through SERVSAFE.
Notes/Vocab/Warm-Ups:
➤ NOTES: Are an Assignment but for a Completion Grade ONLY. Does not count against you if you do not do the NOTES but they are beneficial to help you remember information
➤ Warm-ups /WORD of the DAY” Vocabulary: Will count as a part of your formative assessment grade. These are done together in our Class Meet: NO REASON FOR IT NOT TO BE DONE!
Labs/Projects:
➤Are an Activity to “Enhance and Develop proper skills in food safety & preparation. They are also a Summative Assessment on the Comprehension of the information
ASSIGNMENTS:
➤ All work for Monday - Friday will have due dates listed (A built in 2 day grace period will be allotted for full credit.)
➤ Late Work: Anything after the grace period will have an automatic grade reduction of 5pts for each day it remains late and will only be accepted up to 5 days after the assignment grace period by 11:59pm the 5th day. After that you will receive a ZERO.

Expectations:
➤ Log into GOOGLE MEET a 5 minutes prior to the beginning of the class period.(will last approximately 30-45min) Attendance will be taken in PowerSchool during the first 5-10 minutes (NOTE: Recorded Meet will be posted in Canvas) BE PUNCTUAL!!!!!
➤ REMAINING 30-40 MINUTES OF CLASS PERIOD: IS FOR WORKING ON MY CLASSES ASSIGNMENTS. Complete and upload assignments immediately or soon after instruction takes place...understanding late work is penalized if turned in late
➤ Attendance: You are counted if you are on the Google Meet (easiest & can here all instructions) or TURN IN ASSIGNMENT on CANVAS by 11:59 that day.
- Mandatory contact after every third absence in your class
- Mandatory contact after three zeros in your class
➤ Conduct Yourselves appropriately during the LIVE MEET ➤ PLEASE NO INTERRUPTIONS when I’m teaching/lecturing or giving directions during the Google Meet. I will ask for questions throughout the lecture/discussion or after directions ➤ PARTICIPATION & DISCUSSION IS HIGHLY ENCOURAGED!!!!!!!!!
➤Find a quiet place to sit. Keep the microphone on MUTE until it is your turn to speak. Can also write questions in the CHAT. Use a built-in feature of the app (chat, “raise hand”, etc.) to ask a question.-OR- use Microphone when speaking or answering questions. Keep distractions to a minimum) Please don’t use your cell phone {unless joining by phone & Please make sure to Identify yourself if using phone} watch tv, listen to music, have outside conversations, etc.) while we are ‘Meeting’
➤BE PROACTIVE!!!!!! ASK for help if you don’t understand or are having any problems of any kind. COMMUNICATE WITH ME. I AM HERE TO HELP & SUPPORT YOU!!!
➤ Stay informed on class happenings by reading my emails in a timely manner (within a day of being sent during the week please) Compose your emails in a respectful manner
