Students will access course information by clicking on Assignments.  Students will need their student number and password for NCEdcloud.

PARENTS:  Use the following directions to create a Canvas Observer Account

  • Have your student(s) Generate a Pairing Code (this will be different for each student).
  • Go to https://fcschools.instructure.com/login/canvas (bookmark this site so that you can easily access your Observer dashboard for your student(s).
  • Click on Parent of a Canvas User? in the upper right-hand corner of the window.
  • Complete the required information in the window, which will include inputting the student Pairing Code. Multiple students can be added.
  • Go to the Dashboard to see your student(s)' courses.
  • Parents can sign into this account to easily access their student's courses within Canvas.
  • What can parents view as an Observer?


COURSE DESCRIPTION
This course is a survey of literature across the world. Students will analyze texts from African, English, Chinese, Native American and other diverse groups to provide insight on different cultures. The class discusses important cultural and historical connections in literary texts by focusing on poetry, drama, short stories and novels.

PLAGIARISM
This course requires multiple forms of writing, including research and informal assignments. Any student caught plagiarizing - claiming someone else’s work as their own - will be written up immediately. 

COURSE MATERIALS
Materials include: a three-ring binder, daily paper & writing utensils, a notebook or composition book, and highlighters.

TECHNOLOGY
Being prepared involves consistently bringing a charged chromebook and charger daily; however, other technology including cell phones or other electronics are not to be seen during instruction. Unless given permission otherwise, any cell phones being used consistently will result in a referral.

LATE/MAKE UP WORK POLICY

Any late work assignment will receive 10 points off per day. Late work or missed assignments due to an absence will be given a two day grace period until the 10 point deduction begins. Students are responsible for inquiring about late or missed work after they return to school. FLEX time is available for retakes.

CLASS GRADE BREAKDOWN
The final grade will be a weighted average of the two terms (40% each) and the final exam (20%).

Grades for each term will be weighted according to the following percentages by assignment type:

Tests, Projects & Major Papers 50%

Classwork/Homework   25%   

Quizzes 25%

The following grading scale will be used to assign letter grades:

A 90-100

B 80-89

C 70-79

D 60-69

F 0-59
