Course Description: English IV Honors is a course designed to read, discuss, write, and learn about British Literature. Throughout the course, you will be assigned passages that will be read together in class, and independently. Students will receive vocabulary, spelling, grammar, and punctuation instruction, review, and assessments.

In addition, students will be creating their Senior Portfolio which consists of seven components and weighs heavily on their cumulative grade.

  2. Resume’ and Cover Letter
  3. Digital Scrapbook
  4. Commencement Speech
  5. Formal letter
  6. SMART Goal
  7. Presentation of Components to Panel of Educators

Completing the portfolio will require rigorous work and time management skills. Students will be provided with details of the requirements and grades will be divided between the two reporting periods.

Tutoring and Makeup Tests/Assignments: Available weekly, Wednesdays and Fridays from 3:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. Missing work should be made up within two days of absence.

In addition to the expectations contained in the Student Code of Conduct Handbook, students are expected to attend class regularly, submit assignments on time (Late assignments will not be accepted with the exception of an emergency situation. Please discuss privately outside of class), communicate with the instructor, monitor grades, and participate in group discussions and projects.

Cell Phones School Policy:

  • Cell phones and other personal electronic devices (not included in 1-to-1) are prohibited from being used in the classroom during instructional time.
  • Cell phones and other electronic devices may not, at any time, disrupt the learning environment for the teacher or other students.
  • NO Bluetooth/Wireless speakers are allowed at any time on campus. This includes before and after school hours.
  • The school day at FHS will be defined as beginning at 7:30 a.m. and ending at 2:45 p.m.

Course materials: Students will use textbooks provided by the school and approved websites/PDF materials accessed through the use of the school provided Chromebooks.

Grading Policy: Students will be provided with an opportunity to demonstrate their level of proficiency through the administration of weekly quizzes, unit tests, novel tests/projects, classwork/discussions, and homework.  

The county policy is as follows:

Tests 40% of the overall grade per reporting period

Homework/Classwork 30% of the overall grade per reporting period

Quizzes 30% of the overall grade per reporting period

Semester Grade (Overall Course Grade) is calculated as follows:

40% each reporting period and 20% final exam

Units covered in British Literature:

  1. The Anglo-Saxons and The Middle Age
  2. The Renaissance
  3. The Restoration and the 18th Century
  4. The Romantic Period
  5. The Victorian Period

Students may be asked to locate and turn in assignments in Google Classroom.
