Science Rules

Welcome to 6th Grade Science.  My name is Sara Leonard.  I have taught 6th grade at Terrell Lane for 3 years and LOVED every minute of it.  I was born in NC, moved to Maryland when I was 7 and moved back to Franklin County to teach in 2010.  I have been at Franklin County Schools ever since.  I graduated from Salisbury University in 2001 with a Bachelor's Degree in Public Relations.  I earned my Master's Degree in Education from Frostburg State University in 2009.  I met and married a wonderful southern gentleman and we have 2 crazy dogs (Hank and Pepper).  I look forward to getting to know all my students and their parents as we begin our 2017-2018 school year.

This year, we will be doing things a bit different.  In the past, students have had Science and Social Studies all year long.  This year we will have students take science one semester (18 weeks) and social studies the other semester (18 weeks).  Students who have me now will have social studies in the second half of the year.  Students who have social studies now will have science in the second half of the year.

Our schedule is pretty rigorous due to the timing of courses.  Because of this, I will put information here to encourage students to stay on track. This site also provides parents with up-to-date information about what is going on at school.

Your child will keep a Science Notebook this year.  I create one along with the students.  I do this because I can determine time of each task as well as provide students with a great study tool.  I will periodically check notebooks to ensure completion and correctness.  If a student does not keep their notebook current, their grade will be affected.  I will provide an online copy, for parents to reference, in the schedule below.

Below, you will find the breakdown of our schedule.  This is subject to change, but we will try hard to stick to the plan!  In each Subject, I will include links to our vocabulary, notes and any other information your child will need to know.  Here, you will find a link to our Essential Standards for the semester.  This will tell you what your child should know at the end of each unit.

NOTE: Ive decided to try something new.  Instead of listing each day like above, I will put one link for the whole week.  It will provide a list of class work, notes and activities and take up less space here!  I will link it through the dates below: 10/2-10/6 being the first one ;)

Please note, the vocabulary quiz that was going to be given Friday, October 6th will be postponed until Monday, October 9th.  Students need more time with these terms!  The list is available on (Earth Systems, Structures and Processes List 2...Quiz 10/9) and is in your child's notebook.  Please give them time this weekend to study.

The final assessment for Earth Systems unit will be on Thursday, October 26th!
