Welcome to Mrs. Ihrie's class! I teach students in kindergarten through 5th grade.

Students in kindergarten will learn letters and letter sounds, numbers and counting, high frequency words, and shapes, both one and two dimensional. Kindergartners love to move while we learn and there are lots of counting songs and dances on youtube. If you  google Jack Hartman counting videos, you can find some you like, too!

Students in first grade are learning to retell a story, sight words, and to write a paragraph. In math we are working on fact families, telling time, and word problems.

Students in second grade are learning to decode words by blending sounds. They are also learning long and short vowel sounds, and practicing sight words. In math we are working on addition and subtraction, and word problems.

Students in 3rd grade are learning to answer comprehension questions in complete sentences. We are working on decoding words with vowel and consonant combinations, and continuing to practice our sight words. In math we are reviewing additon and subtraction with regrouping....and always word problems!

Social skills we are working on are how to be a good friend, and following teacher directions.

Some of my students are using Touch Math. Touch Math is a system that utilizes dots and circles on the numbers so that the operations can be preformed by counting. Stop by my classroom if you would like me to show you how we do it.

Friends Around the World Project

My second and third graders are also doing something really fun this year! We have partnered with classes in Russia and Sierra Leone to exchange e-mails. We will also be skyping with the students in Sierra Leone, and hope to Skype with the students in Russia. We have had a chance to Skype with our friends three times.

Our friends received the package we sent, using our United Way Grant funds.
