Wow! It's May!! May is bringing warm weather, make sure your child is dressed for the weather appropriately. Also, you may need to send in additional clothing if the clothes in your child's cubby are from last fall.  Also as we start May, there is Joggin for your Noggin, Early Release, Special Olympics, and Memorial Day.

If you would like to attend any field trip please do the volunteer tracker - Link (click here).

Because of our wonderful trip to Marbles Kids Museum, I have received information about the summer camps that they will have available this summer. I wanted to pass this information on to you: http://www.marbleskidsmuseum.org/summercamps

It looks like they have much too offer. Check it out! If you have questions call the museum and see how they can accommodate your student.

 Financial Assistance
Marbles Kids Museum offers a limited number of camp scholarships to families that demonstrate financial need. The 2017 Summer Camp Scholarship Program application is now available. Please do not register for a session of camp if you are interested in a camp scholarship. Scholarship funding cannot be applied retroactively to camp deposits. Questions? Email Kim DiPiano or call 919.857.1008.

I value open communication between school and home. Please make sure you are reading you child's agenda for important notes that may come home. If you have any concerns or you are not sure how to best help your student, please feel free to contact me through the agenda or by my contact information shown below:

Everyone in our class earns "Flower's" as an incentive towards the prize box and the "Big" prize at the end of May.  In the classroom, we have discussed the classroom rules and the Zones of Regulation (green, blue, yellow and red). We continue to work on social skills daily.

This quarter we are working on sight words. Sight word list have already been sent home with a "Bingo" activity board. Please work with you child to help him/her improve their basic sight word use.  In addition, going over basic math facts nightly is also helpful.

We always enjoy the educational games we play on the interactive white board.

Here is an awesome site! It gives over 50 ways to help your child learn their sight words!!! Check it out!!

Segmenting Words is an important skill for beginning readers! First your child should try and segment words they HEAR and not SEE! below is a list of words your child probably will not be able to read on their own. They will have vowel combinations (ow, ou, ea, ie, oa) and digraphs (sh, th, ch, ng).

Schedule subject to change

ELA skills for the up coming weeks will involve working on individual skills of learning of letters, letter sounds, sight words, blending(tapping) sounds, decoding (reading) and encoding (writing) letters and words. We have been rhyming with word families for several weeks now.

Math skills will include working on adding and subtracting. We will continue to have our classroom store open this week and next week. Everyone will earn money, but will have to count the money in order to shop.  Science in the next upcoming weeks will revolve around the solar system. Next Thursday, we will be talking about the phases of the moon and using Oreo cookies to demonstrate. Please return your child's permission slip to eat them.

In our classroom we will use technology tools and skills to reinforce classroom concepts and activities, such as Kahoot and Jeopardy. Below are the websites that you child is using in Title 1 computer Lab. If you have internet access at home, you can enjoy these websites at home. You can also access this websites through this Canvas page
