Math "I Can" Statements 4th Nine Weeks:

 

Numbers & Operations in Base Ten:

  1. I can demonstrate that each digit represents a value in its position and its relationship to the digit beside it.
  2. I can understand the use of 10 as an exponent & how it affects decimal placement.
  3. I can read, write, & compare decimals to the thousandths (including expanded form.); round decimals.
  4. I can multiply multi-digit whole numbers.
  5. I can divide by two or more numbers; be able to explain the process using content vocabulary.
  6. I can add, subtract, multiply, divide decimals using multiple strategies & explain processes.
  7. I can create numeric patterns when given two specific rules.
  8. I can identify relationships within numeric patterns in order to create ordered pairs.
  9. I can graph ordered pairs on a coordinate plane.
  10. I can use parentheses, brackets, or braces in numerical expressions, and evaluate expressions with these symbols.
  11. I can write simple expressions that record calculations with numbers, and interpret numerical expressions without evaluating them.

Numbers & Operations - Fractions:

  1. I can add and subtract fractions with unlike denominators, including mixed numbers.
  2. I can solve word problems using addition & subtraction of fractions.
  3. I can interpret a fraction as a division expression (numerator divided by denominator).
  4. I can solve division word problems that have answers in the form of fractions or mixed numbers.
  5. I can multiply a fraction by another fraction.
  6. I can multiply a whole number by a fraction.
  7. I can find the area of a rectangle with fractional side lengths.
  8. I can represent fraction products as rectangular areas.
  9. I can interpret multiplication as scaling (resizing).
  10. I can solve multiplication word problems involving fractions and mixed numbers.
  11. I can use visual fraction models or equations to represent word problems.
  12. I can divide unit fractions by whole numbers and whole numbers by unit fractions.

Measurement & Data:

  1. I can make a line plot to display a data set of measurements in fractions of a unit.
  2. I can recognize volume of solids & understand the concepts.
  3. I can measure volume with cubic units.
  4. I can use formulas to solve for volume.
  5. I can convert among different-sized standard measurement units within a system and use these conversions to solve multi-step, real world problems.

Geometry:

  1. I can understand properties of shapes.
  2. I can classify and relate 2D figures based on their properties.
  3. I can use a pair of perpendicular lines to define a coordinate system and plot the points on a coordinate plane.
  4. I can solve problems by graphing points on a coordinate plane.
  5. I can classify two-dimensional figures based on their properties.
