Important Information and Reminders

  • Enrichment schedule for the 4th 9 weeks:

  • The best time to call the classroom is between 8:20 and 8:55, during my planning. The rest of the day is instructional time and I may not be able to answer the phone. You may also send me an email. My contact information is listed at the top of the page.

Homework

Students no longer have formal written homework. The following is expected to be completed by your child each night:

  • Reading (20 minutes each night) - Your child needs to record the name of the book in their reading log (located in the back of their green folder) and a parent needs to initial next to it every day. If a student does not fill in the book title, if the book is not written on the correct date, or a parent does not initial, the reading log will be considered incomplete.
  • Math - Practice math facts
  • ELA - Review spelling words and vocabulary words from the composition notebook

Curriculum (4th 9 Weeks)

Math

  • 2.OA.4 Use addition to find the total number of objects arranged in rectangular arrays with up to 5 rows and up to 5 columns; write an equation to express the total as a sum of equal addends.
  • 2.G.2 Partition a rectangle into rows and columns of same-size squares and count to find the total number of them.
  • 2.G.3 Partition circles and rectangles into two, three, or four equal shares, describe the shares using the words halves, thirds, half of, a third of, etc., and describe the whole as two halves, three thirds, four fourths. Recognize that equal shares of identical wholes need not have the same shape.

ELA

  • RL.2.7 Use information gained from the illustrations and words in a print or digital text to demonstrate understanding of its characters, setting, or plot.
  • RL.2.1   Ask and answer such questions as who, what, where, when, why, and how to demonstrate understanding of key details in a text.
  • RL.2.2  Recount stories, including fables and folktales from diverse cultures, and determine their central message, lesson, or moral.
  • RL.2.3  Describe how characters in a story respond to major events and challenges.
  • RL.2.5 Describe the overall structure of the story, including describing how the beginning introduces the story and the ending concludes the action

Science - Structures & Functions of Living Organisms & Evolution & Genetics

  • 2.L.1.1 Summarize the life cycle of animals: birth, developing into an adult, reproducing, aging and death.
  • 2.L.2.1 Identify ways in which many plants and animals closely resemble their parents in observed appearance and ways they are different.

Social Studies - Economics and Financial Literacy

  • 2.E.1 Understand basic economic concepts.

Reading:

  3. I can describe characters’ response in a story.
  4. I can describe the beginning, middle, and end of a story.

  6. I can acknowledge different characters point of view in a story.
  7. I can use all information in a story to understand character, setting, plot.
  8. I can compare/contrast two or more versions of a story.
